Ch : 1 Arjuna’s Grief
(Arjuna Vishada Yoga)

Dritharashtra said :
At Dhamakshetra, the Kurukshetra
Assembled the war waging
Pandava’s sons and my sons
What been doing say Sanjaya ?

Myself may explain sir,
In-short for thy knowledge
For leaders of my artillery
Are super men oh Noble Sir !

Thyself Bhishma and Karna,
Also Krupa the veteran.
Aswathama, Vikarna and
Bhurisravas and Jayadratha.

Many more are ready here
To spare their luck and life,
For my honour they will fight
All skills with weapons wide.

Insufficient is our army, but
Arrayed under Bhishma’s wing
Sufficient is their army, but
Protected by Bhima the strong.

In formation from all sides
Be steady in own place and
Only protect Bhishma now
All of you men at all cost.

Sanjaya said:
Appears the arrays of Pandavas
Duryodhana’s army, are also seen
Approaching then the Acharya,
Announced he the prince thus-

Oh revered great Acharya
See the force of Pandavas
Lead by the son of Drupada;
Once, your clever disciple.

Here are valiant warriors like
And equal to Bhima - Arjuna
Yuyudhi, Virata, Drupada, and-
Many more elegant charioteers.

Dhrishtiketu, Chekitana;
And valiant Kashi’s king
Purujit, Kuntibhoja and
Saibya, the best to fight.

See strong Udhamanyu
And the brave Uthamoja.
Drupadi’s sons, Abhimanyu,
Also many more veterans.
